How to fish in Romania
First of all I do not want to give lessons to anyone about fishing, but in Romania are some different ways to fish like in other countries. For example, you cannot fish carp in my country with boilies because our fishermen use this bait recently and carp do not recognise it as food.
DANUBE RIVER
Fishing in Danube River is very spectacular: large and deep water, fast current and a lot of very deep backwaters (12-15 m are usual). For those reasons is important to know how to cast, which direction and the most important thing: what kind of tackle you must bring with you for have a successful fishing session (see "Tackle you need"). In this river you can fish carp, catfish, zander, crucian carp, barbel, pike and others.
TROUT FISHING
In our country we have two species of indigene trout, rainbow trout and lake trout. The last one can grows to 5-6 kg, but lives only in very deep water and is hard to catch. The others can grow to 1,5-2 kg, but common size is 25 cm and 400-600 g. Because ours rivers are not large ones and with a lot of vegetation is difficult to fish with fly. For those reasons we use float or small leads in rivers and small spoons in lakes.
When you'll come in Romania you'll learn all these techniques very fast with me. But very important is also...
Tackle you need
DANUBE RIVER
For Danube fishing you need 3-4 rods, strong but sensitive, with length between 3-4 m. The rods used in carp fishing are good but not the heavy ones. Very important for reel is to work properly because fight with a 7 kg carp can take 30-40 minutes. Reels must have minimum 3-4 ball bearings. Line: the best is 15lb with good elasticity and abrasion resistance. Usual leads are between 60-100 g. Hooks: for carp, barbel, crucians and sander are the known ones, but for catfish you must bring nr. 3/0-5/0 because with a small hook can lose a big one.
TROUT FISHING
For trout fishing you need fly fishing tackle, a spinnig rod, small lures and specific for Romanian mountain rivers a light rod, over 4 m with a small reel and 4-6 lb. line. The last one is used to fish trout with float and small leads.
